My name is Jim Mitchell, and I am running for a seat the RSU #34 School Board of Old Town Maine.
I am a retired teacher with over thirty years of classroom teaching experience. I served at times as an administrator, for example when I was Director of Technology for the Belfast area schools in the 1990's. The bulk of my experience was in the classroom where I started as a high school Chemistry and Physics teacher and finished up thirty years later working in elementary schools helping teachers integrate technology into school curriculum.
I have eleven years of teaching experience in Maine, but the bulk of my teaching was in schools located on military bases around the world. I also coached cross country in the fall and alpine skiing teams in the winter. I have had the delight of leading a team to a Maine State championship so I recognize the importance of athletics in our schools.
I returned to Old Town every summer when I worked for the Department of Defense. Since retirement, I have grown closer to this community through my neighborhood activity and volunteer work in the area. I hope to bring to the board a wide range of experience which may offer fresh insights into the management of our local schools.
